March 2007 - Yes, I am still here. After a very lengthy hiatus during which time the web site remained on-line but relatively unmodified, I am back on-line to say that I've got a bunch of updates planned for the site. Sorry, no new news or information directly from the official Danny Gatton camp Flying Deuces records now owned and operated by Holly Gatton. But I have photos, video, and other content to include. I owe a few links back to several sites. So much to catch up on!

So where was I all this time? Well, life has a funny way of working. To briefly summarize: I got divorced, I got married to the love of my life, I switched employers,, I moved 3 times, I had a house built, my nephew was born, and the American Music Company Band played on! Whew!! And during all of that, I was without an easy Internet connection while moving and waiting for the new house to be finished. Next thing I know, my "To-Do" list was so long that it was ridiculous. Then I lost it somewhere in the move. Then the web server got hijacked. Then it took a long time to rebuild and secure it. Then blah blah blah. SO....THANK YOU for your understanding. THANK YOU for your patience. THANK YOU for being a Danny Gatton fan. And THANK YOU for sharing and enjoying this site with me.

February 15, 2004 - Well, it's been a while since I have updated the site. I have been dealing with server security issues and configurations for exactly one year this month. I want to say a sarcastic "thanks" to the knuckle-heads out there that find it fun to spread computer viruses, worms, and other malicious content on the Internet. You make honest web masters have to put in full-time hours to keep their servers safe and secure. That's hard to do when us good guys already have a full-time, paying job. But enough of that. On to the latest...

BOGUS EMAIL - Over the past weeks, several viruses and worms hit the Internet that spread by emailing themselves to addresses in your address book. These viruses then take one of those addresses and use it in the "From:" field of the spam/virus message. The email most likely did not really come from that address in the "From:" field. NEVER open attachments that you were not already expecting, especially if they are from an address you do not recognize. Also, because most email gateways scan for spam but do not authenticate the validity of the "From:" field, when an ISP's email gateway denies the spam/virus message it will return a "Message delivery failed" message to the address in the "From:" field...even though the person who own this address never sent an infected message, and usually knows nothing even transpired until they receive this failure message in their own mailbox.

Occasionally I DO send an email with the latest news and web site updates to a list compiled from those of you who email me directly ASKING me to include your address in my list. Any email I send out is always scanned for viruses before leaving my server. The ONLY legitimate email you will ever receive from me will always directly relate to the Danny Gatton web site. If you EVER receive an email message from me that has an attachment, DELETE THE MESSAGE IMMEDIATELY. I did NOT send that message. Someone else's infected computer, with my address in their addressbook, sent the message, and it is bogus.

The Washington, D.C. Chapter of the Recording Academy presented a 2003 Governors Award honoring Danny. The award was accepted by Jan and Holly Gatton (Danny's wife and daughter). The chapter presents the Award to honor groundbreaking and unsung heroes for their contribution to the local music community.

The Photo Collections are back on-line, with a few new additions...

The newest collection is the Jim Atwell Collection. Jim acquired Danny's journal at the Gatton Estate Auction. See some of Danny's hand-written notes, like a gig list dating back to January 1973. Jim spent some time getting these pages to me, and I greatly appreciate his patience while the Collections were off-line for so long.

Another new collection is the Paul Boudreau Collection. Paul has to be one of the biggest Danny memorabilia collectors on the planet. Paul has sent me so many items that it will take me a while to get them all on-line. I can't thank him enough. A major supporter of Danny's music, and possibly the single most contributor to this web site.

I am trying to rebuild my email distribution list. I sent an email to the list on May 28, 2003. If you were once on my list and did not receive the email, or simply want to be added to my list, follow these instructions exactly...

Compose an email to addme@dannygatton.com with this exact phrase (without the quotes) in the SUBJECT: line:

"ADDME - youremail@somewhere.now"

where youremail@somewhere.now is replaced with YOUR actual email address. There is a single space in between ADDME and the dash, and in between the dash and the first character of your email address. If your SUBJECT line does not look exactly like above, your email will never make it to me. I have to do it this way to eliminate spam. No exceptions.

Please do NOT send correspondence to me personally at the above email address.

The June 2003 issue of Vintage Guitar has Danny on the cover and a great article about upcoming projects from Holly Gatton and Ed Eastridge.

A second article in VG includes excerpts from the upcoming biography about Danny titled Unfinished Business: The Life & Times of Danny Gatton, by author Ralph Heibutzki. Ralph interviewed just about everyone from Danny's life to do research for his book. I was fortunate enough to sit in on an interview between Ralph and a few of the original members of The Offbeats: Ernie Gorospe (my dad) and John Broaddus (both of whom I play music with in The American Music Company Band), along with Jerry Wallmark and Ronnie MacDonald. I have NOT read the book yet and therefore do not officially endorse it, and cannot validate its accuracy. I think it is fair to say that almost everyone interviewed is anxiously awaiting the release for the same reasons. Hopefully the book honors Danny's person, legend, and legacy.

February 20, 2003 - A few weeks ago the web server was compromised and someone was stealing my bandwidth. The server was immediately pulled off-line and rebuilt. The Photo Collections area is still not re-configured. I am still having some issues with the latest version of the web server I am using. Please be patient...
